SYD started out in a glam-rock band called Hector in the mid seventies - they toured extensively supporting such artists as Showaddywaddy.
He joined the original line-up of MUD as the fifth member in the late seventies
playing alongside before eventually replacing Rob Davis.
During this time, Syd formed the band Liquid Gold with Ellie Hope - Ellie
was the female singer featured on Oh boy, (see it all starts to make sense),
Ray Knott (who also played with Mud about 1980 see pics page) and Wal Rothe
(who later went on to be the drummer with Les Grays Mud).
Liquid Gold suddenly had a string of charts hits in the early eighties with Dance Yourself Dizzy, Substitute and Don't Panic. This meant that Syd had to tour extensively and due to his commitments he had to take a break from Mud.
After Liquid Gold Syd returned to Les Gray's Mud where he stayed for the next
eighteen years touring all over Europe and as far as the middle east until
Les was forced to take a break due to ill health.
The rest of the band continued to perform under the name of Tigerfeet to keep
the nucleus together for Les's return. Sadly
this never happened and Les passed away in Feb 2004.
After careful consideration and consultation with Les Gray's estate it was
decided to put the band back on the road in its current form.
Mud featuring members of Les Gray's Mud was born!
